Green Cleaning with Lemon Essential Oil

Lemon essential oil (Citrus limon) is a natural cleanser and has many household uses and health benefits. dōTERRA's lemon essential oil is the highest quality available on the market--it is cold pressed from the rinds of lemons grown in Italy. Italian lemons are much larger and sweeter than domestic lemons, and higher in limonene as well.

Lemon essential oil boosts the effectiveness of cleaning with natural products and leaves a fresh, clean scent around your home. Why switch from off-the shelf products with ingredients like bleach and ammonia? Because those cleaners can irritate your eyes, airways, skin, and nervous system, and they also pollute and contaminate your indoor air and the streams they wash into.

Lemon essential oil will give you all the deep cleaning power you want, plus it is ALL-NATURAL, SAFE, AFFORDABLE, and leaves an UPLIFTING aroma in your home. Below are some recipes to deodorize, disinfect, degrease, polish, and brighten your home with lemon essential oil.

Furniture Polish:
  • Add 4-5 drops lemon essential oil to a small amount of olive oil. (Olive oil is a natural oil that helps to nourish and polish wood.
  • Mix, apply lightly to furniture, and buff for a nice shine.

Basic Household Disinfectant:
  • Fill a spray bottle with water and a squirt of plant-based liquid soap
  • Add 5-10 drops each of lemon, lavender, and white fir essential oils
  • Shake well and apply to all surfaces
Floor Cleaner:
  • Pour 1/4 cup distilled white vinegar to a bucket of water (1 gallon)
  • Add 10-20 drops lemon essential oil
  • Add 3 drops oregano essential oil
Mold & Mildew Spray
  • Pour 2 cups distilled white vinegar into a spray bottle
  • Add 2 drops lemon essential oil and 2 drops melaleuca essential oil
  • Shake well and spray on infected area
Window Cleaner
  • 1 cup distilled white vinegar
  • 10-15 drops lemon essential oil
  • water
  • Mix well in a spray bottle, apply to windows, and wipe

Nurturing with Essential Oils

doTERRA IPC Phillip Bruttig and Madison

"I was visiting my family this past weekend in Orange County. My three-year-old niece Madison overheard a conversation I was having sharing my experience with essential oils. She quickly interrupted the conversation and said, 'Uncle Phil, can you make me feel better?' Then she coughed and said, "I think I need oils rubbed on my feet." Little ones are such a joy :) This was a super cool moment....Thank You, doTERRA!"

Many Uses for Marjoram Essential Oil

Sweet Marjoram Essential Oil is indigenous to the Mediterranean region: Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco. It was known to the Greeks and Romans as a symbol of happiness. The ancient Greeks used marjoram in cosmetics, fragrances and medicines; Greek physicians also used it as an antidote to poison. In 16th century Europe, sweet marjoram was used in bags to scent the bath water and for washing. In Egypt, it was known for its healing properties and was also anciently used to aid grieving.

dōTERRA sources its sweet Marjoram Essential Oil from Egypt. Many use marjoram for alleviating migraines, arthritis, headaches, respiratory infections, sinusitis, insomnia, anxiety, nervous depression, asthma, bronchitis, colds, constipation, flatulence, grief, menstrual difficulties (including PMT) and stress.

Other Uses of Marjoram
Sweet marjoram oil is also used as a fragrance ingredient in perfumes, cosmetics, soaps and detergents; it is also found in meats, sauces, and seasonings.

Culinary Uses of Marjoram

When cooking with marjoram essential oil, remember that doTERRA oils are in their purest form, which makes them very concentrated. Only a tiny amount is needed to flavor meats, sauces, or seasonings. When substituting marjoram essential oil for the dried or fresh herb, begin with the toothpick method. Dip a toothpick in the oil and swirl into the sauce until the desired taste is achieved. For larger quantities, one drop of the oil will add plenty of flavor.

Recent News about Marjoram

A recently published article in Martha Stewart's Whole Living refers to Marjoram Essential Oil's ability to treat eczema. Eczema is a chronic, inflammatory skin disorder. Although eczema is not contagious, it is very common—estimates are that more than 15 million people in the United States have eczema. One clinical study evaluating essential oils for treating children with eczema concluded that massage with essential oils was effective in improving the dry, scaly skin lesions. The essential oils most often chosen by the mothers in the study included sweet marjoram, frankincense, German chamomile, myrrh, thyme, benzoin, spike lavender, and Litsea cubeba.

Give Dad the Gift of Better Health This Father's Day

This Father's Day, give dad a gift that will help him enjoy greater health and happiness: introduce him to pure essential oils! Our Father's Day promotion includes 15 ml bottles of Peppermint essential oil and Grapefruit essential oil, plus a FREE dōTERRA specialized water bottle.

Health Benefits:
  • Peppermint is the perfect essential oil to add to any exercise or fitness routine that dad enjoys. Have dad apply a few drops of peppermint to the back of his neck or temples before his workout, or place a few drops in his palms and have him inhale deeply. The energizing aroma will keep him pumped up to workout and get healthy!
  • Peppermint is also great for easing tired, sore muscles AFTER a good workout. Massage the oil neat or with Fractionated Coconut Oil to the area that is sore.
  • Grapefruit and Peppermint essential oils help improve the digestive system. Adding just a few drops of either of these essential oils to water helps improve digestion, eliminates bloating, and removes toxins. With this specialized water bottle and essential oils, dad will stay hydrated while enjoying more flavorful water!
  • Peppermint and Grapefruit essential oils are excellent mood elevators. These are perfect oils to diffuse in the home or office to create positive, uplifting feelings and to reduce stress.
  • Grapefruit's fragrance has been studied for its ability to help people LOSE WEIGHT. The aroma encourages feelings of fullness, and taking it internally helps with digestion. Maintaining a healthy weight is vital to a longer, healthier life!

Using Scent to Create a Scent-sational Home Environment

Just a few drops of essential oils can make life at home look, smell, and feel more pleasant!

Even though there is plenty to enjoy outdoors during the summer months, most of us will still be spending some time indoors (at home, in hotel rooms during summer travel, or perhaps a cabin on campouts).

Adding the fragrance of essential oils to your summer space is the perfect way to create an inviting atmosphere for friends and guests, while also creating an UN-inviting environment for pesky insects.

  • Diffuse uplifting fragrances such as Citrus Bliss, Peppermint, and On Guard to purify the air and to create a fresh, clean smell.
  • Take your essential oils along when you travel. When staying in hotels, add a few drops of essential oils to a tissue or washcloth, and place over the air vent or fan in the room. This will disperse the oils into the air and rid the room of any odors and airborn pathogens.
  • If you're sending your child to camp, send him/her with a spray bottle and a bottle of Purify. By adding a few drops of Purify to water in the spray bottle, your child can spritz the air in the cabin or tent, as well as any mattresses or sleeping bags to rid them of insects or musty odors.

Here are additional tips on how to keep your home environment smelling fresh and staying free of insects by using all-natural essential oils. Simply add a few drops of the following essential oils on a cotton ball and place in corners or areas where insects are found; sprinkle a few drops of the essential oil directly from the bottle along baseboards; or add the essential oil to a water bottle, shake, and spritz the area to send bugs running away.

Ants- TerraShield, peppermint, rosemary
Aphids- peppermint
Beetles- TerraShield, peppermint, thyme
Chiggers*- TerraShield, lavender, lemongrass, thyme
Cutworm- thyme
Fleas*- TerraShield, Purify, lavender, lemongrass, peppermint
Flies- TerraShield, lavender, peppermint, rosemary
Gnats- TerraShield
Mosquitos*- TerraShield, lavender, lemongrass
Moths- TerraShield, Purify, lavender, peppermint
Plant lice- peppermint
Spiders*- TerraShield, Purify, peppermint
Ticks*- Purify, lavender, lemongrass, thyme

*In case the insects find you before you use your oils, the same oils that repel insects also relieve the effect of the bites. (Special thanks to IPC Jan Meredith from Oregon for compiling this list!)

David Stirling, Dr. David Hill, and Greg Cook are currently visiting Taiwan and Japan to introduce people in those countries to dōTERRA's Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils.
"On this trip we have gained a better understanding of how the Chinese people have been using essential oils for hundreds of years. However, it is clear that no other company offers the purity and quality of dōTERRA essential oils in the market. Thus, we have been able to introduce the Chinese people to dōTERRA's Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils, and we have also been able to introduce the use of oils internally. We are here supporting some very enthusiastic customers, and we are VERY excited about the prospect of officially opening these markets as soon as we have an established customer base," said Greg Cook, Vice President, International & Operations.
dōTERRA is currently working to provide online sign-ups and shopping in both Chinese and Japanese, and has recently printed Introductory Kit booklets in Chinese and Japanese. Also available are Chinese and Japanese IPC Agreements, which are found in Virtual Office/Tools/Business/International Forms.

Be On Guard—Swine Flu and other Infectious Risks

Unfortunately, germs and our exposure to them are a regular occurrence. As resistance and new strains continue to develop, we are at an increasing risk for serious infection.
I realize that there are many discussion threads regarding the potential dangers concerning the swine flu and other infectious health risks. There is much in the way of scientific medical research which demonstrates the efficacy of essential oils against a variety of pathogenic germs. Naturally occurring compound groups such as alcohols, phenols and aldehydes are often identified as being the most beneficial. I feel confident that it is a reasonable and responsible approach to use essential oils daily in a model of prevention and for resolution of symptoms in the cases of exposure.

In general, reducing our exposure and enhancing immune protection is our best defense. I suggest using dōTERRA essential oils in the following way:

1. Establish the daily routine of applying On Guard on the bottom of feet (for yourself as well as family members) both morning and night, which creates long-lasting and consistent protection.

2. Diffuse dōTERRA essential oils in your home routinely throughout the day. On Guard and your favorite citrus oil combined is a potent and uplifting aroma.

3. Drink plenty of water. Adding a few drops of your favorite citrus oil will enhance your body’s natural defenses.

4. Viruses and bacteria are found in staggering numbers on surfaces. Use essential oils to thoroughly clean and disinfect all surfaces you and your family come in contact with. A mixture of Wild Orange, On Guard, and Thyme is especially potent. Diluting the mixture with water in a small glass spray bottle can easily be used anywhere, anytime. Simply spray and wipe for germ-free surfaces on the go.

5. Wash and wipe your hands using essential oils. Adding essential oils to your favorite soap increases effectiveness.

6. Use essential oils in combination to enhance their germ fighting benefits. The essential oils of On Guard (dōTERRA’s natural defense blend), Oregano, and Thyme are a critical part of your family’s protection plan. At the onset of any infection this combination used internally by capsule ingestion or on the bottom of the feet can offer quick relief and elimination.

7. Maintain the basis of personal health through appropriate supplementation. Using dōTERRA Lifelong Wellness pack has immune sustaining benefits for your entire family. With an ORAC score of nearly 6000 per serving, every cell in your body is fortified.

Using CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade™ essential oils is a safe and consistent approach to safeguarding individual and family health.

Yours in Health,

Dr. David Hill

Geranium Essential Oil

The essential oil of geranium is gently steam distilled from the leaves, stalks, and flowers of the plant. It has a sweet, floral-lemony scent that can be bitter to the taste. Although geranium is a stimulating and refreshing essence, it also has calming properties. Nervous tension and depression may be improved by breathing in the beautiful aroma of geranium.* It has also been found to have antiseptic properties.

Geranium is commonly used for menopausal issues, pre-menstrual tension, fluid retention, and challenges arising from fluctuating hormone levels. The sedative properties of geranium encourage relaxation and pain tolerance.

The essential oil of geranium has become a cherished favorite to those with excessive dry or oily skin. Its balancing effect on the skin helps to calm inflamed skin tissue.

Key compounds found in geranium are citronellol, citronellyl formate, geraniol, linalool, linalyl acetate, and geranyl acetate.
